Cherry Hills Village is widely viewed as
being the most exclusive suburb in the Denver, Colorado area. Blessed by strict
zoning, exclusive homes, expansive lots, and unparalled proximity to both
downtown Denver and the Denver Tech Center, Cherry Hills is the locale of
choice for Denver's business leaders and sports heros alike.
Approximately 7 square miles in size,
Cherry Hills Village is bounded on the north at Hampden Avenue (US highway 285)
where it adjoins the city of Denver; on the east by Happy Canyon Road and
Monaco Street, where it meets the city of Denver; on the west by Clarkson
Street where it adjoins the city of Englewood; and on the south by Belleview
Avenue where it meets the city of Greenwood Village.
Cherry Hills Village has approximately
6,000 residents. A typical resident might be a doctor, lawyer, professional or
business manager, although Cherry Hills boasts an unusually high concentration
of sports professionals as well. Notable Cherry Hills residents include retired
Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan and Broncos
owner Pat Bowlen, pro golfer Mark Wiebe, billionaire Donald Sturm, Colorado
Avalanche star Joe Sakic, and baseball outfielder Ellis Burks. Business leaders
include CEOs, presidents, etc., of cable TV firms, newspaper publishing
empires, and software companies. Even Tom ("You have a friend in the
diamond business") Shane lives in Cherry Hills Village!
There are approximately 2000 homes in
Cherry Hills Village. Lot sizes in the village range from one-third acre to
estates of ten acres or more. Most of the city is zoned for lot sizes of 1 or 2
acres. Horses are allowed in many of the areas of the city. Housing prices
begin around $600,000, with prices well above $2 million becoming increasingly
common for homes on acreage in the most desirable locations. In the first six
months of 2002, there were approximately 50 properties sold. Four were under
$600,000, five were $2.5 million or higher, and the median sale price was
$1,300,000. One property in the Village sporting a large home and significant
acreage sold in early 1998 for a price in excess of $8 million.

Cherry Hills Village is proud to have no
retail development, although stores are easily accessible in the surrounding
communities. Instead, the Village boasts two leading country clubs, a tennis
and swim club, an riding club, two private schools and a public elementary
school. There are many large churches which draw sizeable congregations from
the surrounding communities. A large police force provides excellent protection
and security (and seemingly generates substantial revenue from traffic
enforcement!)
